» The passion that drives us - Light of Hope

For many years, physicians and psychiatrists have turned to stimulant medications to minimize problems associated with ADD/ADHD.  Often, parents have had legitimate concerns regarding the effectiveness, side effects and potential harm from long-term use of such medications.

Meanwhile, many research facilities, educators and alternate health practitioners have developed very successful drug-free treatments that go to the core of ADD/ADHD problems.  While medication may be considered a short-term or interim strategy, it is essential to address and remediate the underlying problems of ADD/ADHD and, therefore, provide the child with long-lasting success in school and in life.  The National Institute of Health research provides conclusive evidence that multiple modality treatments provide the most effective, long-term solution for the many challenges of ADD/ADHD.  In multiple clinical studies, EEG Neurofeedback, for example, has been shown to be equal to or more effective than medication, with results lasting beyond nine years post-treatment while experiencing no side-effects.

A thorough, accurate and comprehensive assessment is the key that opens the door to successful treatment.   There is another, equally important reason to begin with this important first step.  When using our scientific, abilities-driven assessment, we’ve discovered misdiagnosis in nearly 30% of our clients.  What has been diagnosed as ADD/ADHD, actually reveals itself as Central Auditory Processing Disorders, Seizure Disorders, Learning Disorders, Anxiety or Depression.  Because symptoms so often overlap, it is easy to understand how a physician’s in-office case history based on parents' and teachers' rating scale can lead to misdiagnosis.

If there is a single message I can communicate to you, it is one of hope.  While they may be challenging right now, the traits, called “impairments”, were once crucial elements of survival and discovery.  Many of our past heroes, explorers, artists and scientists would have been diagnosed with ADHD.  With proper assessment and an appropriate course of treatment, our children can lead satisfying, fulfilled and successful lives without drugs or disabilities - lives that honor the essence of their personality and allow them to reach out and capture their dreams!

Please share the message.
Sincerely,
Ali Hashemian, Ph.D., COHC
